The Raahgiri Foundation is addressing critical societal issues through its focused initiatives on its four pillars of road safety, gender in mobility, public health, and environmental awareness. Recognizing the alarming statistics of road accidents in India, the foundation emphasizes the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations, improved road infrastructure, and comprehensive public awareness campaigns to foster safer roads for everyone. We as a foundation committed to promoting gender equality in transportation, ensuring that women can travel safely and confidently through gender-responsive urban planning and inclusive transport policies.

At Raahgiri Foundation, our four pillars—road safety, gender in mobility, public health, and environmental awareness—are not just abstract concepts; they are deeply embedded in everything we do. These pillars guide our mission to create safer, healthier, and more inclusive urban spaces across India.

Our Pillars

Road safety

The Raahgiri Foundation addresses India's critical road safety crisis, where over 460,000 accidents claimed 168,491 lives in 2022. We advocate for sustainable safety measures, including stricter traffic enforcement, improved road designs, and public awareness campaigns, aiming to create safer environments for all road users.

Gender in mobility

The Raahgiri Foundation tackles gender disparities in Indian urban mobility, where safety concerns limit women's use of public transit. We advocate for gender-responsive urban planning, enhanced safety measures, and inclusive transport policies. Our goal is to establish equitable transportation systems that prioritize safety and empowerment for all commuters, regardless of gender.

Public health

Raahgiri Foundation strives to address India's pressing health challenges through community-driven initiatives, promoting preventive healthcare, and fostering partnerships. Our focus is on raising public health awareness, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and reducing health disparities to enhance overall community well-being.

Environmental Awareness

Raahgiri Foundation is dedicated to addressing India's critical environmental challenges through advocacy, education, and action. Our initiatives focus on promoting sustainable transportation, reducing pollution, and fostering eco-friendly practices to create healthier, more livable communities for all.

Road SAFETY

In India, road safety remains a critical issue, evidenced by the approximately 4,61,312 road accidents reported by States and Union Territories (UTs) during the calendar year 2022, which claimed 1,68,491 lives and caused injuries to 4,43,366 persons.

Key factors contributing to this alarming trend include poor road infrastructure, non-compliance with traffic regulations, and the increasing rate of vehicle ownership. Annually, an estimated 500,000 road accidents occur in India, leading to nearly 150,000 deaths and numerous injuries.

The Raahgiri Foundation acknowledges the severity of this problem and advocates for sustainable road safety measures. By prioritizing strict enforcement of traffic regulations, improved road designs, and extensive public awareness campaigns, the foundation aims to mitigate road accidents and foster safer environments for all road users.

Gender in mobility

Gender disparities in mobility persist in India, with women facing safety and accessibility challenges in public transportation. Despite constituting 45% of the workforce, women represent only 30% of public transit riders due to safety concerns. Addressing this issue requires gender-responsive urban planning, enhanced safety measures, and inclusive transport policies.

The Raahgiri Foundation is dedicated to bridging these disparities by advocating for safer transportation options and promoting gender equality in mobility. Through collaborative efforts with stakeholders and policymakers, the foundation endeavours to establish gender-equal transportation systems that prioritize the safety and empowerment of all commuters, regardless of gender.

Public health

India grapples with significant public health challenges, including high levels of air pollution, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and a burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. With only one doctor for every 11,082 individuals, there is a pressing need to enhance healthcare access and promote preventive healthcare practices.

The Raahgiri Foundation recognizes the significance of public health awareness and initiatives in addressing these issues. Through the organization of public health-related events, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and partnerships with key stakeholders, the foundation seeks to enhance community well-being and reduce health disparities. Collaborative efforts with local communities and organizations play a pivotal role in promoting a culture of wellness and fatality prevention on streets & roads.

Environmental Awareness

Environmental concerns, such as air pollution, water scarcity, and deforestation, pose significant threats to India’s ecological balance. Astonishingly, over 1.2 million deaths in India are attributed to air pollution each year, highlighting the urgent need for environmental conservation efforts.

The Raahgiri Foundation is committed to raising environmental awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and advocating for sustainable initiatives. Through EV adoption, walk-cycle-bus programs, and the promotion of public transport-friendly practices, the foundation aims to inspire environmental stewardship and usher in a more sustainable future. Collaborating with environmental organizations, businesses, and communities, the Raahgiri Foundation strives to drive positive change towards a greener and healthier environment for all.
